13 December 2009 Match report for Wilmslow Town U9 Panthers 5 - 1 home win against Stretford Victoria JFC U9 (12/12/2009)
Both Wilmslow and Stretford seemed very evenly matched sides as a very tight first period produced no goals. Wilmslow were reduced to taking pot shots from outside the area with Scott narrowly putting a shot wide, Lincoln hitting the bar and a good run from Sam H resulting in a fine save from the Stretford keeper. Stretford threatened occasionally but were kept at bay by a tight Wilmslow defensive performance.
The second period started with good pressure again from Wilmslow, but speculative efforts were still the best we could muster, with a fierce shot from Joel well saved again by the Stretford keeper. Midway through the period, Stretford broke up-field quickly and completely against the run of play went a goal ahead with a well worked move. Wilmslow responded well, but the only goalmouth incident of note, a glancing header by Joel from a Finn corner, went just wide.
As the third period commenced, Wilmslow managed to get their passing game together and through the midfield with good passing play, slowly started to turn the game in their favour. Fin hit the post at the end of a great flowing move, and shortly afterward, the unrelenting Wilmslow pressure finally told when they forced the Stretford defence into conceding an own goal to level the score.
Scott and Finn really got their passing game together from this point onward and after another defence splitting pass from the Wilmslow midfield, Finn took the ball down the right wing and crossed for Scott to hit the second low into the corner of the Stretford net. Scott then returned the favour by putting Finn through on goal to calmly slot in the third .
The game was now fully under Wilmslow’s control and more flowing passing moves resulted in two more goals for Finn to complete his hatrick.
Wilmslow came on very strong in the final period to clinch a well deserved victory. Team
