12 December 2009 Match report for Wilmslow Town U9 Jaguars 3 - 2 home win against Lymm Rovers JFC U9 (B) (12/12/2009)
It was another chilly but bright morning at the Jaguars' home ground at Lacey Green. This was the boys last game in division five and they wanted to make it an unbeaten record before going up to the tougher division three. Lymm however had no fear of the Jaguars reputation and started off very strongly, Oliver was called on to make some early great saves but then Harry W played a sublime pass through to Robbie who bagged then first goal of the game. Lymm fought back well though and the Jaguars had to be at their best in defence to keep them from scoring. Just before the break it was a reversal of the first goal with Robbie this time putting Harry W through who took full advantage of a great pass to put the Jaguars two up. Harry B and Josh put themselves about and Harris made some good touches but there were no more goals as the first period came to a close.
First Period: Jaguars 2 – Lymm Rovers 0
Lymm came out strongly from the break and the Jaguars were again having to defend well, Sam and Steph particularly showed their strength in breaking up attacks. Robbie and Harry W combined well to cause Lymm some headaches and then Sam played one of his Beckhamesk through balls to Robbie who made a good effort on goal. Lymm were proving to be the toughest competition yet and it was they who scored next to close the gap to 2 – 1. Sam again was tackling well and helped take the pressure off until the end of the second period.
Second Period: Jaguars 2 – Lymm Rovers 1
Mark must have fired the boys up during the break because they came out battling. Robbie put pressure on the Rovers goalie and forced a mistake, this gave Harry W a chance and that’s all he needed to calmly slot the ball home and give the Jaguars back their two goal cushion. Shortly after though, it was a mistake at the other end that led to an own goal and Lymm were back in the game at 3 – 2. It was then end to end excitement with Joe making a good shot, Sam continuing to soak up the pressure at the back and with Steph making a great clearance at the death.
Final Score: Jaguars 3 – Lymm Rovers 2
So, the Jaguars leave division five having not lost a game and well deserving their promotion. Sam won man of the match for his tackling, passing and the good effort put in through the game – well done to Sam. Yet again though, it was a team performance that got the result and all the boys deserve a mince pie and a kiss under the mistletoe from their mothers!
