30 November 2009 Match report for Wilmslow Town U11 Jaguars 7 - 0 home win against Inter Cheadle JFC U11 East (28/11/2009)
With the scheduled fixture against Chinley Juniors postponed, Inter Cheadle East were happy to bring forward their game at Jim Evison against the table topping Jaguars. After the week’s rain, the pitch was very wet and soggy in places but playable.
The Jaguars were boosted by returning players, and started with Natty in goal, a defence of Neil, Tom, Ted and Charlie, Hector and TJ in midfield with Jamie and Connor supporting Kieran and Sam in attack. Brendan and Will made up the substitutes.
The game started evenly. Inter Cheadle were a much better organised side than in the corresponding game earlier this season, and had obviously gained in confidence with their subsequent victories since that match.
Like many games, the start of the match was keenly contested in a crowded midfield. The deadlock was eventually broken when Hector managed to sweep a ball out to the wing, where Connor crossed the ball to Kieran for the Jaguars’ first goal.
The Jaguars then started to play with a bit more confidence. A move down the left wing lead to Jamie crossing the ball to Connor, who capitalised on the goalkeeper’s indecisiveness, by dribbling the ball around him and slotting the ball home to make it 2-0.
Inter Cheadle were not to be denied however, and in a sweeping move they forced a great save from Natty who managed to palm the ball around the post to save a certain goal and deny a Cheadle comeback.
As half time approached, Kieran also started to find his range, and from one of his passes, a powerful shot from Connor deceived the goalkeeper at the near post and gave the Jaguars a 3-0 lead.
Invigorated by their team talk, Inter Cheadle started the second half looking to get back into the game, but the Jaguars’ defence was again set on keeping a clean sheet. Cheadle’s attacks were met by the brick wall of Ted and Tom who seemed determined that no one would pass them (and if they did they would be offside!), and they were ably assisted by the dogged tackling of full backs Neil and Charlie.
Hector was also responding to the Jaguars’ team talk, and from one of his passes out to the left wing, Jamie lofted a ‘Jamie Special’ that dropped from high like a shot clay pigeon into the back corner of the Cheadle net.
At 4-0 down, you could sense that some of the Cheadle players’ were starting to get a bit despondent. Connor in particular was giving the left back a torrid time, and from one of his excellent crosses Sam managed to side foot home the fifth goal on the goal line.
The Jaguars continued to press home their advantage. Sam also made it six nil with his second goal, before he returned the favour to Connor, whose powerful shot made him the game’s hat trick hero and rounded off another 7-0 win to the Jaguars.
Inter Cheadle East came into this game having lost only once and that was to the Jaguars. The boys did everything expected of them today. After the shambolic defending in the last match, it was important we thought about our positions as a team and the back four in particular started to defend properly as a unit again. The improved performance was reflected in a clean sheet, and also a compliment from Cheadle’s management who said we have the best defence in the division. Keep it up boys.
In our next game, our target should be to try and show some more composure on the ball. We are top of the table and we do not need to panic when we have the ball, or when we have an opportunity to score. We do not have to play at 180 miles an hour all the time. We should try to make time on the ball, to play a good strong pass to one of our team mates, and look and think about which of our team mates is in a better position than ourselves to score a goal.
Weather permitting our next game is at home to Henbury and Broken Cross, let’s try and win that game by playing with some style!
Goal scorers; Hat trick hero Connor (3), Sam (2), Jamie (1), Kieran (1)
GBK Man of the Match; Connor –this award is fully deserved. Connor’s recent performances have been consistent and today he was rewarded with a hat trick. Connor is a winger that likes to score goals. We have been practicing our crossing in training, and Connor also remembered in this match that good wingers also know when to pass the ball to a team mate who is in a better position to score. Well played!
