22 November 2009 Match report for Wilmslow Town U9 Panthers 3 - 0 away defeat to Fletcher Moss Rangers JFC U9 Blues (21/11/2009)
Well we might as well put the summary of this match before the actual report.
Fletcher Moss took their chances and scored and we had our chance and didn’t!!
We were missing Teniel this week, although rumours that he had been called to Twickenham to strengthen Martin Johnson England rugby team were being denied.
This meant that Sam D went back in defence to partner Sam H.
We started well enough, Finn on the right wing was putting in some good strong runs, we were getting the ball across in the penalty area but despite good efforts from Scott and will we just couldn’t hit the target.
Fletcher moss were a strong team on the break and on more than one occasion Tom in goal came to our rescue putting in some great saves and certainly showing no fear in diving at the opposition feet to block the ball.
Our new defensive partnership were holding it together well, both Sam’s putting in good tackles and having the confidence to run the ball out of defence when the chance arose.
Towards the end of the period Fletcher Moss were awarded a free kick in a dangerous spot and we were all relieved to see the shot just curl over the cross bar.
It really was a well-balanced affair, the period ending after another shot from will again just missing the target.

Harry and Ben came on to replace Scott and will and for the opening few minutes it was again a balanced affair. The stalemate was broken by Fletcher Moss, a long range shot from well outside the penalty area managed to sneak inside the post.
Wilmslow tried their hardest to get back in the game, but we seemed to fall into the understandable trap of each of the boys trying to do it all themselves, on accessions we should have passed the ball earlier rather than trying to take on more players and again there were times to shoot at goal rather than trying to walk the ball into the net.
When the chances did come again we always seemed to shoot just wide or just be unable to get a touch on the ball.
Fletcher Moss were always dangerous on the break and again in this half Tom made some good saves.
In midfield, Joel and Ben were having good games and Henry on the wing was causing problems for the opponents.
Each of the boys played well but just couldn’t get the rewards for their work.
Towards the end of the period FM took a bigger lead when another good long-range shot beat tom and found the goal. 0-2
30 minutes: Fletcher Moss 2 Wilmslow Town Panthers 0
Henry and Sam D took a rest and it’s a case of stating the obvious but we needed a goal, after a short period Henry came back on for Ben and soon had a shot which a gain went just wide, we had to throw everything at the game and this meant pushing players forward, sadly this left only Sam at the back and mid way through the period we went another goal down 0-3.
We still kept on Scott had a header go just wide, Finn was tireless in running at the opposition and it was his hard work that won him the MOM award.
45 minutes: Fletcher Moss 3 Wilmslow Town Panthers 0
Game ended sadly in defeat, whilst I am sure FM will disagree and say I am biased I think a draw would have been a fair result, we didn’t do enough to win but there again I think 3-0 doesn’t credit our boys either.
Lessons to be learned…get the passes going, when we did this we were creating the chances to score, when we do get a chance to shoot take the shot.
