22 November 2009 Match report for Wilmslow Town U14s 7 - 3 away defeat to Timperley Villa JFC U14 (22/11/2009)
Worst conditions ever to play a game of football and it did seem a bit coincidental that our Manager, Bob, had "another engagement" but there we were - Sunday morning, in the middle of a blizzard, on the fields of Timperley against our rivals for first place of the league. This did not phase our boys and we had a full turn out, including goalie Harry Stobart, who has been struggling with a thigh injury following an unfortunate challenge during last week's game. And boy did we need him!
Game started with both teams playing a bit random, not helped by the pitch which was smaller than our lads are used to, resulting in Timperley going 2-0 up very early in the game. Wilmslow kept their composure and settled down after that with Paddy Storey scoring a good goal from a brilliant pass from Joe Swindells. Not much later Joe made what can easily be called the best goal this season, scooping the ball into the net from halfway down the line.
Wilmslow had chance after chance but somehow didn't manage to get that ball into the net, not helped by a couple of unfortunate decisions made against them. Just one of those days - but the boys kept fighting till the end and are more than ready to welcome Timperley Villa on our home turf next week - the battle has only just begun!
Special mention for some great defending to the two Robbies - Robbie Mecrow and Robbie Nicol, and the captain, Joe Pindar.
