7 November 2009 Match report for Wilmslow Town U9 Jaguars 6 - 6 home draw with Hough End Griffins U9 (07/11/2009)
After a two week break the Jaguars took their time warming up and Hough End punished them with the opening goal after just five minutes. This sparked the Jaguars into life and Harry W had shots cleared off the line twice but the visitors came straight back up the field with Oliver having to rush out and clear. Robbie then continued with the end to end excitement and scooped in the Jaguars equaliser after a free kick. Harry W then made a great block and took the ball right up the line but his shot was forced off for a corner. After two further corners Hough End broke back but Steph stopped them in their tracks with great defending and then, after a little dance from the referee, Harry W bagged his second to put the Jaguars ahead. As the clock was ticking down Kieran had a sizzling shot saved but then put in the rebound for his well deserved first Jaguars goal. Jo and Sam then proved their mettle with solid defending before the referee ended what had been a pulsating first period.
First period: Jaguars 3 – Hough End Griffins 1
Straight from the whistle, Hough End forced a corner but the ball was soon back in their half of the pitch with Josh coming so close to a goal from Robbie’s cross. Josh was then again in the thick of the action, he made a great turn to feed the ball through to Harry W who blasted a Nov 5th like rocket that went fizzing into the back of the net. The Griffins were stung into action, Kieran was back defending to clear for a corner then Harris was also showing great defensive tackling but all this effort could not stop them getting a goal back to make it 4 – 2. The game then reached a crescendo with both teams battling and the ball from end to end, another goal was bound to come and it was Hough End who got it, a rather messy scuffle in the box but it put them in sight of the Jaguars at 4 -3. Despite pressure on the goal from both Harry and Robbie it was the Griffins who scored next to equalise, this was by far the toughest game the Jaguars had played all season. Robbie came so close and then Harris made a vital last man tackle on the wing to prevent a Griffin chance.
Second period: Jaguars 4 – Hough End Griffins 4
Manager Mark gave the boys a good pep talk during the break and the game was delicately balanced. It was the Griffins though that broke the deadlock after a long run up the pitch. Kieran again defended well and then Harry W had a great shot saved then crossed for Robbie to score and get the Jaguars back even. Harry B made a crucial tackle then Kieran talked the Griffins biggest player and won the David and Goliath style battle. James came on and made a good impression but another long run from the Griffins resulted in another goal and them edging back in front. Jamie cleared well to stop another and then Oliver cleared off the line. Harry W played a great ball through to Robbie but it went just behind him, so close to a really good chance. The Griffins then stepped up the pace but a string of saves by Oliver and some good team defending kept the Jaguars in the game. James showed some good skills in defending, Kieran kept on battling and Harris put in some strong tackles. The Jaguars were facing their first defeat of the season but it was Harry W who popped up just in time to get the equaliser and make it a stunning 6 – 6 draw.
Final score: Jaguars 6 – Hough End Griffins 6
This had not been the Jaguars best performance but they showed a great fighting spirit having come back a few times during the game. It was a solid team performance and Oliver was given man of the match for making some good saves in a key part of the match.
