U-11 Jaguars attack! - defenceless Rockets' devoured.

26 October 2009

Match report for Wilmslow Town U11 Jaguars 0 - 7 away win against FC Blue Star U11 Rockets (24/10/2009)

After last week’s thrilling cup tie it was back to league action for the Jaguars and a visit to one of Manchester’s fine municipal parks at Fog Lane, to play a rearranged fixture against FC Blue Star Rockets.

On a wet and damp autumnal morning perfect for football, the Jaguars lined up in an unfamiliar 3-4-3 formation due to illness and half term holidays. Fin in goal, Will, Tom, and Neil formed the backline with Natty and Jamie playing wingbacks in a midfield diamond anchored by TJ and fronted by Sam. The front three comprised Kieran, Brendan and Connor.

The boys were keen to get back to winning ways, and started brightly. The new midfield in particular took to its task with relish, and a tackle from Natty, and some raiding wing play by Connor lead to Sam heading in the first goal. 1-0 to the Jaguars.

The understanding between Natty and Connor on the right started to pay dividends. It was then Natty’s turn to overlap down the right wing, a great cross into the box was blocked, but fell to Connor who dragged the ball back onto his right foot for a powerful shot. Goal! 2-0.

Kieran also started to dominate possession of the ball in the Rockets’ half and from his left wing cross, the unlucky goalkeeper missed the ball, and Sam followed up for a simple tap-in. 3-0.

As the half closed Kieran again found space down the left hand side, his pass to Jamie was played to Sam, who passed the ball onto Connor who hit home for his second goal and the Jaguars’ fourth.

At half time, the message to the boys was simple; keep playing the same way, keep your formation, and let’s deliver another clean sheet for Captain Ted, who though ill, had come to support and encouraged his depleted teammates.

The Rockets’ started the second half brightly. They were clearly determined to take the game to the Jaguars but the play became more open as tiredness then began to take its toll on some heavy legs. This allowed the boys to play some attractive, expansive football, which was great to watch.

With little to do in defence, the Jaguars’ back line also started to play higher up the pitch. Neil played one of his trademark composed passes to Will, his cross shot was headed by Natty to Sam, who then leapt like a (small) salmon to head his third and the Jaguars fifth goal. 5-0.

The understanding on the wings between Natty and Connor and Jamie and Kieran, lead to most of the Jaguars’ attacks, and good interplay between Natty and Connor, lead to the Rockets’ unfortunate goalkeeper dropping the ball again for Sam to score his second follow-up, his fourth and the Jaguars’ sixth goal.

As the match neared its end there was just time for Natty to pass the ball to Brendan, who bamboozled the dejected and despondent Rockets’ defenders before blasting the ball home. 7-0 to the Jaguars!

This was a really good performance from the boys. The discipline in their unfamiliar positional play, in particular shown by Tom, TJ, and Natty was excellent. Another hat-trick for Sam, another seven goals, another clean sheet, another league win. Most pleasing of all however, was that every player contributed to some fantastic passing football during this game. Excellent.

Goalscorers; Sam (4), Connor (2), Brendan (1)

GBK Man of the Match; Kieran  –a game where the opposition had no answer to his silky skills. Kieran matched his skill with hard work today from the very first, to the final whistle. This enabled him to dominate possession and be at the heart of all the Jaguars’ best play. Well done.
