11 October 2009 Match report for Wilmslow Town U13 Cougars 4 - 3 away defeat to Fletcher Moss Rangers JFC U13 (A) (11/10/2009)
This was an even contest with both teams creating chances and Fletcher Moss scoring the winner right at the final whistle.
First Half
The first half kicked off with Wilmslow facing the wind and rain. Given the pace of the Fletcher Moss front line it was going to be a challenging thirty five minutes. However it was Wilmslow who created the first clear chance with Dan forcing a fine save from the opposition keeper.
However Fletcher Moss looked dangerous in attack particularly in the right channel keeping Ollie and James busy. The opposition number ten was very quick and Wilmslow were caught for pace a number of times. In response Dan and Pete were working well together upfront and Ollie Ford was also playing very competitively. It was Ollie who neatly controlled the ball on his chest to send Dan away - a cross to Pete who perhaps could have tested the keeper more with his shot.
Following another quick break however Fletcher Moss took the lead. There followed a sustained period of pressure and Wilmslow struggling to clear their own half soon found themselves two goals down.
However there was still room for optimism for the travelling supporters.
Dan was causing a lot of difficulties for the Fletcher Moss defence. It was not surprising therefore that following excellent work by Ollie and Pete, Dan slipped a defender and neatly shot past the keeper. Fletcher Moss started to realise they had a game on their hands. Pete broke forward again and Dan forced a fine save from the keeper but Ollie could not quite make the rebound. Brad blasted high and wide and the first half was over.
Second Half
Owain and Milan came on for Brad and Dean and Fletcher Moss kicked off against the elements. However they started the half well forcing a fine save from Isaac, a quick clearance from James sends Pete off down the left who crosses and there is Ollie to score the equaliser.
Turkish beer all round !
This was a good contest now with both teams committed in the tackle, Wilmslow however lacked composure at times and gave the ball away far too often. When they did move forward at pace Dan and Pete remained a real threat and following good work between the two of them Dan put Wilmslow ahead three two.
Benno came on at left back with James switching to right with Jordi taking a well earned breather. Fletcher Moss were coming on strong now and all felt we needed a fourth. Raife was busy at the back defending everything he could in the air but Fletcher Moss kept pressing and Wilmslow were losing the fifty- fifty challenges. Another chance for the home team and its three - three.
Cancel that next round of Turkish beer.
It is Fletcher Moss who are finishing the stronger. Wilmslow have battled hard but are finding it difficult to sustain a forward movement. Pete is working tirelessly upfront both G and Milan are doing what they can in midfield. Wilmslow do create a chance but the keeper saves well from Pete before taking a knock claiming the ball from the corner.
Then the killer blow. A flowing move down the right involving the Fletcher Moss number ten who is faster than Mr Bolt. A cross - a header - 4 - 3 to Fletcher Moss and that's the way it finished.
