27 September 2009 Match report for Wilmslow Town Veterans 0 - 2 away win against Mobberley (27/09/2009)
Wilmslow Town moved to the top of the division after winning this clash against Mobberley Rangers at Mary Dendy.
Wilmslow worked hard and started well putting Rangers under pressure for most of the half. The deadlock looked to have been broken at one point but a shot by Turner took a deflection and agonisingly dribbled wide of the empty net before anyone could poke it in. The game was certainly being taken to Mobberley who held out until the end of the half.
Wilmslow nearly paid the price for not taking their first half chances as Mobberley launched an aerial assault on the Wilmslow defence. In seasons past the defence would have crumbled but this time the defence stood firm and with Barber going off injured Manager Royle came on to add some fresh legs up front.
It wasn't long before a pass through to the so far reliable Mobberley keeper was chased down by Royle and in a moment of panic the keeper made a meal of it allowing Royle to dispossess him and fire the ball into the empty net.
Despite more Mobberley pressure Wilmslow managed to contain things and wrapped the game up 10 minutes from the end when Turner fired in after a cross from Royle found its way through the defenders legs.
Next is a difficult trip to the in-form Prestfield.
