Match report for Wilmslow Town U18s 3 - 3 home draw with Timperley Villa JFC U18 (13/09/2009)

U18's first game of the season was a perfect example of football at it's cruellest. A game dominated from start to finish by Wilmslow but missed chances and uncharacteristic mistakes resulted in 2 points lost rather than a point gained.

A lively start to the game allowed Timperley Villa to sneak an early goal. After 8 minutes their striker capitalised on a loose backpass to take the lead against the run of play. The home team didn't panic and continued to play some very confident, composed football. Good work down the flanks caused Villa problems and soon the game was camped in the away teams half. The battle in mid-field was dominated by Garner and Mcphearson, and the back line marshalled anything that was thrown their way. Chances followed and on 25 minutes good work down the wing by Pinder created room for a snap shot inside the 18 yard box. The keeper saved initially but couldn't hold on and quick reactions from Pinder meant the follow-up strike was too hot to handle. 1-1 and from there on it only looked like there would be one winner. Danny Jones replaced Pinder on 35th minute.

The only threat Villa posed was on the counter attack, although the back line rarely looked threatened. Town pushed on looking for their second goal of the campaign, which on the 37th minute allowed a Villa counter attack, although seemingly under control a nervous clearance pinballed around on on the edge of the 18 yard box and dispite the attentions of Johnson and Forsberg the Villa striker somehow ended up with the ball at his feet, slotting away his, and Villa's second goal. Half time and the score 2-1 to Timperley Villa.

The second half and more of the same, Town Played all the football, and all that football was played in Villa's half. Chance after chance, went either side of the Villa net. Town were patient and on the 65th minute got what they deserved. A good bit of football allowed Mcphearson to break through from midfield, quick feet took him past two bewildered defenders and a tidy drive into the bottom corner followed to make it 2-2. Town now needed to find another goal from somewhere to get the result they deserved.

A composed back line kept Villa at bay with ease. untill a long ball was misjudged, row z was beckoning but the clearence unfortunately fell at the feet of Villa's right winger who broke up the field and whipped in a cross right on the money for the striker to header and complete his hatrick. 'Are you joking' were the words mouthed by many town supporters. The team now now needed to pick themselves up, knowing they could possibly be robbed of 3 points. Pick themselves up they did and created more chances in 10 minutes than Villa had all game. Abedian became even more effective on the wing along with Jones on the other side. 85th minute and a cross came in met by Abedian with a Vambasten like volley just outside of the 6 yard box, only to produce a match winning save by the Villa keeper. A great save it was, match winning it wasn't and with five minutes left on the clock, a Connor Wilde cross landed pin point on to Wittaker's head who directed into the back the net. Town weren't finished and felt they could still grab a winner. Unfortunately this wasn't the case. Great character and patient football earned the team a point, could've and should've probably been 3 but 'football's a funny ole' game'.
