Match report for Wilmslow Town U9 Cougars 3 - 1 home win against Altrincham FC Juniors U9 Knights (12/09/2009)

Wilmslow Cougars launched into the new season with a fantastic home win against Altrincham FC Juniors Knights.   Altrincham did not make it easy but with some fabulous defending from Luke, Ben and Olivia in the first third and some great saves from Martin, Wilmslow did not concede.  Freddie, Neeki and Will were fabulous going forward, showing great passing and movement and within the first couple of minutes Will had had some great shots which just tipped the cross bar.  Halfway through the first third Will cleverly got him self into position to smash a goal mouth scramble into the top corner. Cougars pushed hard with Ben and Olivia supporting down the flanks creating lots of chances, with Neeki controlling the midfield it looked like Wilmslow Town would romp to victory but Altrincham had other ideas.

15 minutes: Wilmslow Town 1 – Altrincham Knights 0

Wilmslow rung out the changes in the second third, bringing Charlie into the Right back, pulling Will into midfield and Harry upfront which nearly paid dividends in the first few second when the ball was played beautifully to Harry, Harry, one on one with the keeper was unlucky pushing the ball past left hand post.  At this point Altrincham began to fight back forcing some dogged defending from Luke Olivia and Charlie. Luke’s positional play was outstanding giving Altrincham little Chance of testing Martin in Goals.   Wilmslow Town were unlucky not to be 3-0 up in the second third with Neeki blasting a shot over, and Altrincham’s keeper making a tremendous save.

30 minutes: Wilmslow 1 – Altrincham Knights 0

Wilmslow kicked off the third third at a blistering pace causing 4 corners in succession, Altrincham cleared the ball up the field and left Wilmslow defending the Altrincham attack, Ben beat the attacker and blasted down the right wing to find Freddie gambling upfront, Freddie calmly took the ball and slotted it past the keeper.  Wilmslow created lots more chances with Olivia flying tirelessly up the left wing to find Neeki and Will leaving Luke controlling the Wilmslow defence.  Towards the middle of the third Wilmslow attacked a little too hard and lost concentration with Altrincham taking full advantage and scoring from a long ball over the top.  This spurred Wilmslow on to dominate the last 5 minutes creating lots of chances and playing the best football so far this season.   Some neat passing on the edge of the box found Will with half a yard who struck a lovely left footed shot into the back of the net.

45 minutes: Wilmslow 3 - Altrincham Knights 1

Neeki was awarded Man of the Match for his tireless effort, controlling the midfield throughout the game with some superb defending and attacking play.
