U13's rise to challenge - what a thriller

22 March 2009

Match report for Wilmslow Town U13 Cougars 2 - 2 home draw with AFC Urmston Meadowside U13 Falcons (22/03/2009)

This was always going to be a challenge for our boys but rise to it they sure did!   Loads of pressure from Albion during the first half, with some great crosses by Mike Towers to Ed Whatson, clearly unnerving the opposition, resulting in a booking for their No 2.  Jez Sumner was his usual strong self, never hesitating to throw in a good tackle and this resulted in a very satisfactory result of 0-0 at half time.

Second half started off with Urmston pushing back, but Albion's goalie,  Harry Stobart, proved his worth in goal again with some excellent saves.  Despite all his efforts, Urmston managed to sneak one in, and Albion went 1-0 down.  Not for long though, as a rebound from Joe Pindar gave Mike Towers the chance to equalise.  A couple of minutes later, Patrick Storey made it 2-1 for the Albion and things were looking good, until a penalty awarded against us allowed Urmston to make it 2-2.

Overall, a great, thrilling game of football, with two teams very much equal in skill and determination.   Special mention to Logan Stanyer who was a strong contender for the MOTM award for his fabulous performance.

MOTM - Luke Taylor for running his socks off.
