21 December 2008 Match report for Wilmslow Town U14 Panthers 3 - 8 away win against Flixton Juniors FC U14 (21/12/2008) A return to Flixton following last week’s cup win may have had the very vocal opposition manager hoping for a different result, but that was the last thing on the minds of Albion’s lads.
The intent was there from the start with a two goal lead within 10 minutes courtesy of Jordinho. But a lack of concentration towards the end of the first half let Flixton in to score three goals, two in quick succession. Thanks to a goal from Luke the half ended with honours even with all to play for.
Albion’s manager had been doing his best to compete in the coaching volume stakes with the Flixton manager, but I’m sure that was the only part of today he didn’t mind losing. However, it seemed the softly, softly approach in the half time team talk did the trick as a rejuvenated Albion came out for the second half with the wind at their backs.
Camping in the Flixton half for most of the second period it wasn’t long before Jordinho popped up again. The confidence of the lads grew even more after a superb solo effort from Harry who skinned a couple of defenders before coolly slotting the ball home. All goals count, no matter how they’re scored, so when Miles appeared at the right time in the right place to tap in the 6th, it was game over.
Not to be outdone by Jordinho, Luke powered in another shot to try to add yet another hat-trick to his growing tally, but it was to be Jordinho’s day as he added his fourth & the teams 8th for another well-deserved win.
Not to be forgotten today are the defenders who worked tirelessly putting in important tackles when most needed. Some may have been up against bigger opponents but that didn’t worry them, either going round them or through them, it didn’t matter.
Well done lads, there were some very proud parents on the touchline. More of the same next year – please!
