14 December 2008 Match report for Wilmslow Town Veterans 5 - 4 home win against Lostock Rangers U21 (14/12/2008) Bragging rights in the Jackson household belong to Dad tonight as Wilmslow Albion Vets took on Lostock rangers U21's this afternoon at Jim Evison. The key to this fixture is that Steve Jackson is Albions striker and Jackson Junior is Lostocks centre half. The Lostock lads clearly underestimated the veterans squad in this friendly and friendly taunting backfired on Lostock as Albion took an early lead thanks to a fiercely driven shot from Carden. Minutes later Albion were two up as Royle raced on to a through ball and poked the ball through the keepers legs and into the net. Within minutes though, Lostock had scored when a cross was met unchallenged by the Lostock forward. Albion then made it 3-1 when a scruffy shot from Hall squirmed through the keepers hands and into the net. Jackson senior then made his presence felt and scored the first of his two goals. 4-1 to the Albion at half time. Lostock, clearly embarrassed by the scoreline decided to attack and played some lovely one touch football. It wasn't long before they'd pulled it back to 4-2. A hard swerving shot into the roof of the net left keeper King helpless. Minutes later it was 4-3. Again, a mazy run and fine individual skill saw the ball put wide of King and into the net. Fifteen minutes left and the fitness of youth was starting to show but a resilient Albion defence kept Lostock at bay. Indeed a counter attack saw Jackson net his second of the game. Lostock had time to pull one back before Jackson, Royle and Hall all went close at the other end. Mrs Jackson will no doubt be having an early night whilst the two men in her life argue long into the early hours.
