7 December 2008 Match report for Wilmslow Town U9 Cougars 6 - 2 home win against Sale United JFC U9 (06/12/2008)
This mornings fixture was always going to be a tough encounter; Sale Utd considered one of the top teams in the first division, combined with a pitch suitable for dancing on ice was thought to be a formidable task.
We started off well, and under supervision of the Argentine Gunta the goal posts were set up in record time, despite Jack Frosts intervention, Ruben finally mastered the painting by numbers approach!! Well done Ruben!! ‘Its just like watching BRAZIL.....
Well ‘Dancing on Ice’ it was, Albion destroyed the highly rated Sale Utd Team within the first 10 minutes,,,,,,,it was 5-0 to the boys. Without doubt the best 10 minutes performance of the season. Maybe it was down to the training session the night before; Hotdogs, Coke and MarsBars at the Clubhouse!! Alias, ‘5 GOALS ATTWARD’ and his band of little helpers systematically ripped apart the opposition with a combination of hard work and a display of total football.
First Period: Albion quickly mastered the conditions from the KO, with some fantastic passing and tackling. The midfield unit of Sam Dickinson, Federico Cnobel and Jack McAndry soon got the ball upto little goal scoring machine Scott Attward, and before you could blink an eye, Scott had scored the quickest hatrick ever, 5 minutes.....Fantastic.....what a start. By the time the first period was up, Scott added another 2 crackers to see Albion 5 – 0 to the good ,,,,, GAME OVER.
Second Period: Into the second period, and time for us to see the defensive duo of Tenniel Cowen and Joel Constantine work their magic. Sale soon came back into the game, but, Tennie and Joel worked strong and stayed resilient to any attacking threats. Great talking between the pair, and with the introduction of Greg Stewart helped Albion remain a tight unit at the back. Inevitably Sale pilled on the pressure, Henry Thomas between the sticks, soon pulled off some magnificent saves as Sale posed a threat more and more. After some very dubious refereeing, Sale pulled a goal back finishing the period 5 – 1 to Albion.
Third Period: Sale started stronger, and after more refereeing obscurities, Sale scored again to make it 5 – 2. Possibly the worst thing Sale could have done, Albion now very angry,,,,,Feddie starts on another blinding run down the right wing, floats the ball across to the penalty spot to see Joel crash the ball in the back of the net,,,,,’ave it’,,,,, 6 – 2 the Albion. Lots more controlled play from the midfield general Jack, with Sam and Tennie tackling and mopping up any loose balls saw the game out. A truly great performance with some wonderful passing football ,,,, a joy to watch ,,,, WELL DONE BOYS.
PLAYER RATINGS: 1: Henners – Goalie: Little to do for much of the game. Brave and courageous when required, Great confidence,,,, again. 2: Joel – Defender: Fantastic tackling from ‘The Cruncher’. Fearless with a beautiful GOAL to round off a great performance. 3: Tenniel – Defender: Gaining in confidence every game ,,, much better timing in tackles, brilliant defending and passing ,,,, well played Tennie. 4: Greg – Defender: Solid and confident in defence, some good passing down the wings. Kept things simple when defending ,,,, nice to see, well played. 5: Federico – Midfielder: All over the opposition like a rash, brilliant runs, great passing and stronger tackling ,,, A great Captains performance ,,, Well played Feddie. 6: Jack – Midfielder: Some tricky forward runs, great free kicks and unlucky not to be on the score sheet. Gaining in confidence each game ,,, well played Jack. 7: Sam – Midfielder: Excellent tackling and passing game, great down the left and right wings ,,, well done Sam. 8: Scott – Forward: The Goal Machine strikes again!! A MARVELLOUS display of goal poaching, finishing and bull-dozing brilliance ,,, somebody so small, but so strong ,,,, Tremendous Scott ,,, Well done. Not Available 9: Kieran – ‘ill, with a late appearance to support his team mates from the touchline, well done Kieran’ 10: Adam – ‘The Karate Kid’ – Karate exam, watch out next weeks opposition!! The Crowd – Vocal as ever!! Especially the rendition of ‘Jingle Bells’ just what we need, more of it!!
MANAGER COMMENTS: Delighted with the 1st period, a brilliant start to the game, 5 – 0 up after 15 mins what more can I say. We came out of the traps tackling, chasing down players, lovely passing with some clinical finishing .... FANTASTIC. Concentration and a little urgency in 2nd and 3rd period let us down slightly. The team came back strong with many of you playing your best game.
